Taking our chances in the river and avoiding the scratchy shore
One of many reminders of the historical importance to the salt route
It was hot enough in the sun that it felt good to be in the water. We cruised for miles like this. Even with occasional quicksand, it’s hard to imagine more sublime, interesting hiking.
We started to pick up trails on the shore and scratched it out for several miles to get to this view.
This is the Salt Canyon trail, 3000′ feet vertical. This is not a day-hike.
Just above Blue Spring. The water is clear, but still tastes just as terrible as the blue stuff.
